Environmental Planning Advisor (Contract)

  • Full time (76 hours per fortnight) Part time hours may be considered
  • Contract for 12 months maximum term
  • Nine-day fortnight option (Full time position only)

About this position

The Planning and Development directorate is seeking a dedicated Environmental Planning Advisor to provide expert environmental technical advice on subdivisions, development applications, and structure plan submissions, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and supporting sustainable outcomes.

The role contributes directly to the City's environmental sustainability by assessing planning proposals and recommending conditions for water management, bushfire risk, revegetation, and fauna management, while ensuring compliance with environmental legislation.

This dynamic position will work closely with internal teams and represent the City by engaging with developers and external agencies, as well as contributing to the development of local planning policies and environmental guidelines.

This position is full time; however, the City will consider applications from candidates seeking part-time work (minimum 53 hours per fortnight).

What we are looking for

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of best practice environmental management and ecological principles
  • Knowledge of the role of environmental assessment within the planning framework
  • Substantial experience in, and detailed knowledge of, statutory requirements relevant to environmental management
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement abilities

Essential requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Environmental Management, Science or relevant area
  • White Card
  • Driver's licence
  • National Police Clearance (less than three months old). Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but may be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.

Desirable requirements

  • Previous local government experience in subdivision assessment
  • Comprehensive understanding of land development and water management practices
