About the position

The City is seeking a dynamic and community-minded individual to join its vibrant Community Development team.

As a Community Development Officer, you will help deliver innovative programs and events that celebrate diversity, build local networks and empower residents and community groups to lead change.

This role contributes to a wide range of capacity-building initiatives, including delivering community projects and services, assisting local groups with grant support, and managing the Connect@Kenwick facility to strengthen local participation. You will also play a key role in major community events, including coordinating the Global Village at the City's annual Fusion Festival.

Reporting to the Senior Community Development Officer, this position is part of a collaborative and purpose-driven team within the Community Capacity Development branch. The team works in partnership with residents, local agencies, and a diverse network of stakeholders to build on community strengths and address local needs.

Please note: This position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

What we are looking for

To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate:

• Experience working in the community development sector
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Effective program and project management skills
• Well-organised with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
• Ability to build strong relationships and work with diverse communities

Essential requirements

• Driver's licence
• First Aid qualification
• Current National Police Clearance (less than three months old) Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.

Desirable requirements

• Tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Social Science or related field
• Experience working with volunteers and community groups
