Senior Building Surveyor

  • Full time (76 hours per fortnight)
  • Nine-day fortnight option

About this position

In this key senior role, you will undertake the statutory building functions for the City to facilitate a high standard of building control and to provide leadership and guidance to other staff within the Building Services unit.

As the Senior Building Officer, you will undertake functions such as:

  • Assessment, processing, and determination of statutory applications for building approval, building occupancy, and coordination with related approvals.
  • Participating in the operation of the Development Control Unit and monitor Building Services related outcomes and actions.
  • Ensuring that determinations made are in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Interpreting and applying a wide range of relevant policies, codes, Australian Standards and legislation, and provide guidance to other technical officers on appropriate application of technical standards.
  • Promoting, interpreting and applying contemporary Building Surveying processes.
  • Carrying out duties within stated and/or statutory timeframes and managing conflicting demands to meet deadlines and priorities.

What we are looking for

To be successful, you must to be able to demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of building methods, practices, and trends and substantial experience in applying it in an operational context
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to liaise with all levels of the private sector and community.
  • Highly developed ability to analyse, interpret and apply legislation to a variety of complex issues relating to building assessments.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to empower, motivate and develop team members
  • The proven ability to prioritise, monitor and co-ordinate personal workload, with minimal supervision to achieve agreed outcomes with specified timeframes.

Essential requirements

  • Current National Police Clearance (less than three months old) Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.
  • Current driver's licence.
  • Current accreditation certificate as a Building Surveying Practitioner (Level 1 or 2) registered with the Building Commission of Western Australia in accordance with the Building Regulations 2012

Eligibility for membership with the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) will be highly regarded.
