About the City of Gosnells (City)

The City serves a diverse community of more than 135,000 residents. The City is a large local government in Western Australia with a reputation for professionalism, innovation and excellence. City employees enjoy a work environment that encourages professional development and promotes a healthy work-life balance.

About the position

Ready to shape the future of the City of Gosnells' natural areas? As an Environmental Officer in the Parks and Environment branch, you will turn your environmental expertise into action - driving strategies, plans and projects that protect, restore and enhance the City's diverse natural environments.

This high impact role offers genuine autonomy and variety, where your work directly supports high value environmental outcomes and helps position the City as a leader in natural area management across Western Australia.

Your day-to-day will shape City projects through environmental impact assessment and compliance processes, collaborating with internal teams, contractors, government agencies and community groups to protect and restore natural ecosystems. You will apply innovative, best-practice environmental management approaches, lead the development of the City's Environment Strategy, and create management plans for high-priority reserves - turning big-picture environmental goals into well-planned, effective on-ground outcomes.

In this role, you will

  • Develop and implement natural area/environment management strategies, plans and policies
  • Lead projects and contracts to deliver value-for-money environmental outcomes
  • Undertake Environmental Impact Assessments and ensure legislative and policy compliance across City projects
  • Translate complex environmental issues into clear practical advice for senior leaders, colleagues, contractors and the public
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and community groups
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively while working both independently and as part of a team

What we are looking for

To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in environmental or natural area management
  • Strong project and contract management capability
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, impact assessment and compliance processes
  • Strategic thinking, with the ability to translate technical issues into practical, on-ground solutions
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team

Essential requirements

  • Degree in Environmental Management or equivalent
  • Driver's licence
  • White Card
  • Current Police Clearance (less than three months old). Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role, but it will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.

In return we can offer you

  • A competitive salary and additional superannuation contributions
  • Opportunities to grow your skills and career
  • A supportive and forward-thinking work environment where your contributions shape the community's future.
