About this position

This is an excellent opportunity for a trade‑qualified carpenter who enjoys varied maintenance work and takes pride in delivering practical, high-quality outcomes.

You will play a key role in maintaining Council-owned buildings and facilities, ensuring they remain safe, functional and fit for community use. With a strong hands‑on focus, you will also provide on‑site coordination and act as a point of contact when required, supporting the smooth and safe delivery of work across facilities.

You may already be providing informal guidance on-site or are comfortable stepping into a coordinating role when required, but your strength lies in your technical capability and hands-on experience.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct maintenance carpentry to a wide range of City buildings and assets
• Manage and oversee works by contractors to deliver assigned facility projects
• Conduct on-site inspections of contractor-completed works
• Support the 'permit to work' system
• Provide timely advice on high-risk areas related to facility maintenance

What we are looking for

To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate:

• High level carpentry skills to perform building maintenance to a professional standard
• Sound knowledge of building construction, maintenance techniques, procedures, and industry trends
• Ability to provide on-site leadership and direction with a small team, including the ability to step into a supervisory capacity when required
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to coordinate personal workload and multiple tasks with minimal supervision and within specified timeframes

Essential requirements

• Carpentry trade qualifications
• Current driver's licence.
• White Card
• National Police Clearance (no more than three months old). Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.
