About this position
The City is committed to providing attractive, safe and well-maintained parks, public places and natural areas for passive recreation.
We are seeking two motivated and experienced Team Leaders to lead small crews responsible for the establishment and ongoing maintenance of horticultural landscapes. This includes turf areas, sports surfaces and trees, maintained to a high standard.
In this role, you will
- Provide horticultural technical expertise and guidance to team members
- Undertake scheduled maintenance including mowing, spraying and pruning, with a strong focus on safety
- Apply experience and knowledge of turf practices, including fertilising and renovations
- Operate and maintain a range of horticultural equipment
- Lead, train and manage up to three staff, along with contractors, ensuring works are delivered on time and to a high standard
- Identify, address and resolve operational issues as they arise
- Ensure the team completes all required safety documentation, including Take 5s, pre-starts and park inspections
What we are looking for
To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate:
- Significant experience in a horticultural maintenance leadership role
- A strong ability to work effectively and contribute to a productive team
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide positive and courteous customer interactions
- Solid problem-solving skills to address complex horticultural and parks operations issues
- Experience using tablets and a working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook
Essential requirements
- Certificate III or higher in Horticulture or Turf or equivalent
- MR driver's licence
- White Card
- National Police Clearance (no more than three months old). Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.
Desirable requirements
- Operator tickets for machinery such as loaders, forklifts and chainsaws
